Sadly enough, stories like this happen on a daily basis, and I know this for a fact because it's happened to me.
It was a long time ago, when I lived in Germany. My dad was deployed in Iraq, back when the fighting and killing was the worst. I finally got a chance to talk to him on my birthday. I remember telling him that I loved him, and that he needed to come home safe. Shortly after our conversation, I overheard his voice when he was talking to my mom, and that his convoy had been ambushed and he had almost been killed just days before my birthday.
Joining the army is very difficult decision, especially for a woman. It's a hard work and you must be physically AND mentally strong. I've been thinking about joining the army, too. You know, I'd love to be a helicopter pilot, but... naaaah I still don't know, hah. Not an easy job...
Humans naturally love the feeling of war....the mere thought brings their blood to a boil and in their eyes they seek blood, and death. I am one of those people. stop the war indeed, the war will never be stopped. Peace can be made, but only for a period of time.
What? I hate war! Wars get fought over things like oil and religion (which are dumb things to fight over but world leaders are dumb), not because people just like war. The Sontarans in Doctor Who are a race that actually enjoy war, and they are nothing like humans, they go around killing everything in the galaxy for the enjoyment of it, we wouldn't do that (though we do kill animals for sport, which should have stopped last century). There's nothing to love about the feeling of loved ones being gone forever, cultures completely destroyed and whole races of people hating each other for no good reason. That's what war is. It's not heroic, it's not fun, it's not for a good cause. It's plain evil and unnecessary. Of course it's the government's fault, not the soldiers, if governments could stop arguing war would be over easily.
